Hi! Thank you for reading my blog! Here’s a little info about me:

My name is Heather. I am first and foremost a Christian. I have been married for 14 years to the nicest man I’ve ever met (truly!) and mom to two terrific girls.

I truthfully used to spend about $200 per week/ten days on groceries for our family of four (plus 4 pets). I used a coupon now and then, but mostly relied on the store sale prices and that was the extent of my food budgeting!

In October 2008, we were dealt a horrible blow – my husband was laid off. We were blind-sided and terrified – we have two daughters, a mortgage and bills! As a single-income family we suddenly became a zero-income family.

We decided to make some very tough choices. One of the easiest ways for us to cut corners was to slash our food budget. So, armed with great advice from a friend (thanks, Pam!), I was determined to cut our food budget as much as possible. The wonderful thing about matching coupons with sales fliers is that you see the results immediately. My first time “out on my own” I saved about 50% on food – I was thrilled!

Now, over the past months, I’ve become better at this and I am very happy to say that I have cut our food budget from about $800 per month down to as low as $40 a WEEK, sometimes less. I get many items free as well.

I will be honest with you – it does take work. I visit about five different stores to get the lowest prices, as well as sometimes hitting the stores 5 days per week (when triples or super doubles are out there). However, it is worth the effort for our family.

And, on a happier note, my hubby is now working again. But, I am forever changed and will continue to be a “coupon chick”!
