Coupon Organization 101

I originally posted this when A Coupon Chick got off the ground, but thought any new readers (thank you!) might like to see how I organize my coupons~

When I first started using coupons, I bought a small accordion coupon organizer. This worked for a while, but I found that I was missing some great deals by not being able to see all of my coupons at once. The constant flipping back and forth through each category also cost me a lot of time at the grocery store.
My actual binder

My friend, Pam, who is a coupon master, told me that she uses a binder and clear baseball card holders. This is genius! I immediately ran out and spent the $13.00 for the 3-ring zippered binder and the card sheets. They sell for about $2.99 for a 10-pack. As I’ve gotten more coupon addicted (seriously!), I’ve had to buy many more packs of the protectors…

I purchased the zippered binder (keeps my coupons from falling out!). I love having the interior pockets for extra coupons and my scissors.

This minimal investment has paid off very well! The categories I use are: produce, vegetables/sauces, condiments, peanut butter/jelly, refrigerator, beverages, baking items, breakfast, granola bars/fruit snacks, salty snacks/chips, prepared side items, yogurt, surface cleaners, laundry, dish washing, pets, feminine products, shampoo, oral care, body wash/lotions, Ziploc/Reynold’s, frozen, shaving/deodorant.

These categories work well for me and I have their locations memorized in my binder. Since I visit three grocery stores regularly, as well as three drugstores regularly, it’s easier for me to just memorize the book rather than organize the book to one store’s layout.

The baseball card sheets work so well!

As always, I’d love to hear your thoughts! How do you organize your coupons? What works best for you?
